Answer:  He had a severe allergic reaction to the insecticide in his yard which caused heart failure

joke of the day

The world's most incredibly lazy man found a magic lamp. He rubbed it and a genie appeared and granted him three wishes. He wished for a horse, a sumo wrestler and a squirrel. "They're yours, but what are they for?" the genie asked.

"I'm tired of walking everywhere--I want to just ride the horse. The sumo wrestler is so that I won't have to work to get on the horse."

"But the squirrel?" asked the genie.

"I need something to go 'click-click' to start the horse!!!"

Men, Women, and Shiny Objects

When a woman speaks to a man, what part of her face does he focus on?  How about the other way around?  Well thank goodness somebody studied this issue because we now have an answer.  It turns out that when a man speaks to a woman, she will focus on his body language and eyebrow cleavage.  On the other hand, a guy will listen to a woman while staring at her mouth.  This, say experts, is a misguided attempt to visualize her words.

What outside forces distract us during a conversation?  Women tend be distracted by people wandering into sight, while guys were more likely to be distracted by random movement like bikes, bright objects, flying dragons, etc.

Drop Out!

The most challenging part of any weight loss program is actually staying in the program.  Close to half of us drop out of weight loss programs before achieving the desired results.  The main reason is the feeling we've gone as far as we can go with the program.  If we feel we won't lose more weight, we'll give up.  But maybe Dr. Jim Early, a professor at the University of Kansas, has a better explanation:  "People don't want to give up their comfort foods."

Stranger Danger

What's your best technique for avoiding interaction with the public?  That's what a Yale researcher wanted to find out, so she hopped a bus and traveled across the country.  After observing and interviewing dozens of travelers, she discovered that people will go to great lengths to avoid interacting with strangers, including covering the open seat next to them with a jacket, staring out the window, pretending to be asleep, or flashing the "don't bother me face," otherwise known as the 'hate stare.'

The researcher found that plopping down right next to someone while there are rows of open seats makes you look like a 'weirdo.'

And what about if passengers know a bus is going to be full and they're forced to sit next to someone?   Well, instead of avoiding people, we switch strategies and now try and find someone "normal" to share the ride with.

What is defined as "normal" trumps race, class, or gender when it comes to finding a bus buddy.

Facebook/Phones:  What behavior bugs you most when it comes to sitting next to someone you don't know?

Is 30 the new 21 (and is that something to be proud of?)

Interesting survey of adult men and women, all born in 1990, about how they view their place in life at 22 years old...

  • Only 38% feel like they're grown up adults.  The kind of person that pay mortgages, have retirement accounts, and no longer eats Captain Crunch for breakfast
  • 21% insist they are not adults.
  • 49% are not quite sure where they fit in
  • 72% still lived at home

Now, to be fair, only 140 people were involved in the study, so the sample may not be entirely accurate.

Phones/Facebook:  When are you an adult?  How do you measure it -- age, financial independence, college graduate, member of the military?

Joke of the Day

So one day, Gramma sent her grandson Johnny down to the water hole to get some water for cooking dinner. As he was dipping the bucket in, he saw two big eyes looking back at him. He dropped the bucket and hightailed it for Gramma's kitchen.

"Well now, where's my bucket and where's my water?" Gramma asked him. "I can't get any water from that water hole, Gramma" exclaimed Johnny. "There's a BIG ol' alligator down there!"

"Now don't you mind that ol' alligator, Johnny. He's been there for a few years now, and he's never hurt no one. Why, he's probably as scared of you as you are of him!" "Well, Gramma," replied Johnny, "if he's as scared of me as I am of him, then that water ain't fit to drink!"

Mother's Day Drives Women to Cheat!

The site's creator believes the reason falls on a husband that is thoughtless on her special day. Source

Girls Hate Exercise...thanks gym class!

This one is a little hard to believe, but a British study discovered that over half of girls are put off by physical activity because of their experience in gym class. 45% think sports are too competitive, and a third believe their PE teacher only pays attention to students who are good at sports.

Just under half of girls think "getting sweaty" is not feminine, half are self-conscious about their bodies, and 57% drop out because their friends do.

Our Worst Fear EVER

Forget spiders, being buried alive, heights, being caught naked at work (wait, what?), or any other rational fear you can think of... our BIGGEST fear is being separated from our cell phone!

66% of us are afraid of either losing or being separated from our phone. 41% say they have more than one phone.

There's a name for this, you know, and it's called "nomophobia." Nomophobia is defined as being out of contact with someone via mobile phone.

Women more than men are scared of losing their phones, but more men are likely to have more than one phone.

Facebook/Phones:  Do you have a fear even bigger than losing your cell phone?  It's hard to believe, I know, but what is that fear?  What has it kept you from doing that you always wanted to do?

Radio Rude in 1989/ Radio rude in 2012

Hey guys (and gals)...here's to a great Thursday!

The first story below is a no-brainer for almost all demos -- "Rude behaviors we continually encounter." Of course, #1 on the list is people that let their kids run wild.

It got me to thinking what we might consider rude RADIO behavior in 2012. The standard for rude has changed so much since I got into radio in 1989. Here's how:

Rude in 1989: Not pulling at least an hour worth of commercial carts for the next jock during a shift change
Rude in 2012: Not having the commercial log loaded at 10am on Friday for weekend voice-tracking.

Rude in 1989: Discovering the studio is a complete mess with show prep scattered all over the board.
Rude in 2012: Discovering the last live jock on the air (12 hours ago) didn't log off the computer.

Rude in 1989: Leaving the next jock an empty reel of tape for recording phone calls
Rude in 2012: Leaving the next jock with a full hard drive

Rude in 1989: The overnight jock not making a full, fresh pot of coffee before leaving
Rude in 2012: The one overnight person in the cluster tracked out, ran to Starbucks, and brought you back nothing

Rude in 1989
: Not having enough T-shirts in all sizes for your listeners at a station appearance
Rude in 2012: People that ask for a T-shirt when they know all they're getting is a sticker.

Wow, that was fun! I could go on, but I need my beauty sleep. Have a great show, and as always, please click G+, Facebook, Twitter or email at the bottom of this blog to spread the word! Enjoy the Show Starters...

Joke of the Day

Q: Why do ducks have webbed feet?
A: To stamp out forest fires.
Q: Why do elephants have flat feet?
A: To stamp out burning ducks.

Rude!

What are the rudest behaviors EVER? A Yahoo! survey discovered the rudest behavior we continually encounter are parents that have no control over their kids in public. Of course, as a parent, I have empathy for a mom trying to grocery shop with four kids. We shouldn't pretend to know her circumstances, but some of us feel "so bothered" by laughing children.

Here's how the survey breaks down:

  1. Parents who don't supervise their children 56%
  2. Talking loudly on their cell phone 19%
  3. Rude waiters 8%
  4. Pet owners that don't clean up their dog's poop 7%
  5. Being late 7%

What? Spitting isn't on this list? Are you kidding me? Have you ever walked right behind someone who clears the deep bowls of his throat and then unloads it right in front of you? Kind of like what this lady did in front of a TV reporter the other day? At least she said "sorry I have a bad cold". Glorious.

Where do we encounter the rudest behavior?

  1. Retail stores
  2. Grocery stores
  3. Airports/airplanes
  4. Restaurants/coffee shops
  5. Gym

Best rule to remember if you encounter a rude waiter: "Never mess with a water until you've gotten your food."

Wild Dream Facts

You may be asleep, but your brain is very much awake, and here are a few things you need to know about your dreams:

1. Violent dreams can be a warning sign (...of Parkinson's disease and dementia)

2. Night owls have more nightmares (the reason is unknown, but one theory says cortisol, which peaks in the morning right before we wake up, triggers vivid dreams if we're still sleeping)

3. Men dream about sex (...and to balance it out, women are more likely to experience nightmares)

4. You can control your dreams (...but only if you're used to playing video games. Video gamers can control their dream worlds, as if they're controlling a video game character. Gamers are better at turning a nightmare into a carefree dream)

5. Why we dream (We dream because we are critical thinkers. Dreaming helps us solve puzzles that have plagued us during daylight hours.)

The Worst Kid Drinks For a Kid

Why are too many kids so fat in 2012? Just look at what they're drinking. The Centers for Disease Control say sweetened beverages are the biggest source of empty carbs in children's diets are do nothing but expand waist lines.

Kids should only get 3 teaspoons of sugar a day, but the average 4 to 8 year old is getting 21 teaspoons per day on average. YIKES!

So Debbie Beauvais, who speaks for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is pushing for parents to stay away from the worst of the worst drinks -- aimed right at your kids.
  • Hi-C (One little carton has more sugar per ounce than in a regular Coke!)
  • Hawaiian Punch (Not only does a serving have 70 calories and 17 grams of sugar, but it also includes the artificial coloring "Red 40" we've been warned to stay away from)
  • Sunny D (just 5% actual juice, but 11 grams of sugar in a 6.75 ounce bottle)
  • Capri Sun (6 ounces has 60 calories and 16 g's of sugar)
  • Dannon Danimals (70 calories and 14 g's of sugar
Debbie says to replace the above with healthier alternatives like water (4 glasses a day), pure juice (not juice drinks and only 1 cup a day), and low-fat milk (2 to 3 cups each day).

Male/Female Stereotypes That Used to Be the Complete Opposite

Pink is for girls, eh? Not in 1918! A 1918 editorial from Earnshaw's Infants' Department declared that pink was "a more decided and stronger color...more suitable for the boy; while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." That didn't change until the 40's. Also, dresses weren't just for little girls, but for little boys, too.

Crying Used to Equal Manliness. In ancient Greek culture, men were expected to cry if their familiy's honor were in question. It was one of the greatest signs of true manliness. Even Japanese samurai and midieval heroes cried like babies. It meant you cared and were confident.

A "Man's Place" and a "Woman's Place" is Whatever Makes the Most Economic Sense. More women are rockin' in the workplace, and more men are staying home. It wasn't too long ago when men dominated the workplace, and women stayed home. But in the 1800's, there wasn't really a difference. Dad's knew how to change diapers and do dishes. The point was to make sure the kid lived long enough to help out on the farm. The idea of a "man's world" and "woman's world" didn't develop until the Industrial Revolution.

Gadget Goddess

Mother's Day is creeping closer and closer and if you believe this latest Buy.com survey, gadgets will rule the day.

Gadget Goddess: Close to 40% of customers saw their mom as a "gadget Goddess" because of her love for tech toys. That means new cell phones, cameras, and tablets for Mother's Day!

The Trendsetter: 24% of us consider our mom a trendsetter because of her love for high fashion

The Fitness Fashionista: 2 in 10 believe our mom is a fitness queen because her must-haves are running shoes, a yoga mat, and a medicine ball.

On-the-Go Gal: 18% say our mom is a super busy alpha mom that just wants to be pampered this holiday with her favorite movie or book.

Facebook/Phones: Is there a category missing? How about the just-trying-to-survive-day-by-day mom? Have one to add?

Cheaters!

Shocking new statistics have discovered that close to 50% of people in committed relationships have cheated... with MONEY! Maybe that's not so shocking. We've all fibbed a little when it comes to spending, right? The most common financial fib involves shopping.
  • More than 25% of women and 8% of guys have pretended something was old when it was actually brand new
  • 32% of women have hidden purchases from their partner.

There's a serious side to this, of course, with less than 10% confessing to opening a secret bank account, or having secret credit cards.

"To have a successful relationship, you need to have trust, and hiding money secrets is a huge way to break that confidence,"  says the business editor for the Today Show.

Tonight was just one of many nights where I absolutely love my job. I judged a culinary arts festival for a local college. These students major in fancy cake design -- ya know, Cake Boss stuff. I'm not complaining, because during our break, students brought us samples of everything being served in the building. Check out this spread...

Joke of the Day

Late one afternoon the Air Force staff out at Area 51 were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their "secret" base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room.

The pilot's story was that he took off from Vegas, got lost, and spotted the base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Force started a full background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation.

By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn't a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying "you-did-not-see-a-base" briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison and sent him on his way. The day after that though, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP's surrounded the plane, only this time there were two people in the plane.

The same pilot jumped out and said, "Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!"

6 Little White Lies Moms Tell Their Babysitters

From the Cafemom blog... those little lies you'll tell to get a sitter over your house.

1. "The baby will go right down for a nap, no problem," knowing darn well that the child hates naps and will fight naps to the death.

2. "The children have been fed and will require no snacks before bed time," knowing that every night at bed time, your children escape the bed no less than seven times in the name of crackers, apples and water.

3. "We don't let the kids watch television."

4. "Bobby's allergic to processed food and has a weird skin reaction that lasts for days." This white lie ensures that the babysitter will feed your child a wholesome meal rather than hot dogs and Cheetos.

5. "We have security cameras throughout the house. If you get in trouble, just give us the thumbs down sign and we will come right home."

6. "We'll try to be back before the kids go to bed," knowing that you want to be somewhere, anywhere else

Phones/Facebook: What little white lie have you told your babysitter to keep them on their toes?

The average Facebook user wastes devotes eight hours a month to the social network, and that not only translates into lost time, but lost bucks, too.

A survey from online marketing experts Sociable Labs discovered that we are heavily influenced into buying products our Facebook friends "like" or recommend. It's called 'social proofing', and three-quarters of us have clicked on product links shared or "liked" by friends on the site.

After clicking, more than half of us ended up buying the product.

Pinterest Interest Dropping?

Could the social media craze of 2012 be losing steam? Pinterest had crazy growth in January and February but is unexpectedly losing users this month. It seems monthly active users are down from 11.15 million on April 1st to 8.3 million today. Time to hit the panic button? Hardly. It's speculated that the meteoric rise in growth were from people just curious to try it out for a couple days. The core audience, women, are still passionate about the site.

Fact: Pinterest is not the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter.

Lawsuit of the Day

A group of parents are suing Apple because their children spent real money playing games on their parent's iPhones and iPads. The suit claims youngsters can purchase "game currencies" without their parents knowing. Games like Smurf Village are free, but the 1,000 credits involved in using the game costs $59.

The children named in the suit spent anywhere from $100 to $340 of their parent's money playing the games. Games that the suit calem are addictive, and used to generate more money for the company.

Apple claims no responsibility because parents agree to the stated terms and conditions before downloading the app.

Women -- So Busted!

Men are always taking heat for checking out other women on the beach while with their wives or girlfriends. That's why men where mirrored sunglasses, right? So they won't get caught?

Relax, guys, you won't get caught, because she's too busy checking out other men... even more than you're ogling other women!

In a new survey, 56% of men admitted to eyeing up members of the opposite sex while on vacation with their partner. 74% of women said the same.

How about that? So busted!

How do women seem to get away with it? 77% try and cover it up by doing things like waiting until their partner was not around, or by wearing sunglasses. Some pretended to be looking at a member of the same sex, while others just made sure their partner did not see.

Phones/Facebook: What's your stealthy technique for checking other people out at the beach?

Worst Wedding Pictures Ever

Are these the world's WORST wedding photos ever? It's possible.

Thomas and Anneka Geary hired 2 photographers to capture their special day, but what they got back were a series of disasters, including...
  • A photo of the couple signing the marriage register with a mysterious hand in the background holding a toy motorcycle (which was Anneka's 3-year-old nephew)
  • Shots of the bride and groom walking through the door with cardboard boxes in the foreground
  • A shot of the entire family posed on steps with a child's head popping up at the bottom of the photo
  • A shot of friends and family toasting the couple -- no faces are seen, just the back of heads
The photographers would love to refund their money, but the firm went out of business after paying off a string of disgruntled customers.

Facebook: Describe your worst wedding photo (and maybe post it, too?)

To Spam or Not to Spam, That Is the Question!

I just read the most interesting survey about Facebook's ability to separate us from our money. Here's a quick break down (from Monday's prep, by the way):
"A survey from online marketing experts Sociable Labs discovered that we are heavily influenced into buying products that our Facebook friends "like" or recommend. It's called 'social proofing', and three-quarters of us have clicked on product links shared or "liked" by friends on the site. After clicking, more than half of us ended up buying the product."
Let's not pretend that social proofing is a new concept. It's been around since the beginning of time when Phil the caveman recommended using a club made of oak to Hank the caveman for more effective bashing.

Social proofing exists on our shows every day, too, with live endorsements. Your listeners trust you, so when you tell them you lost 50 pounds by taking a pill (that gave you incredible gas, by the way, but we'll leave that part out), they'll give it a shot. This is radio 101.

Facebook just puts it on a massive scale. The study found that when brands have fan pages...
"every fan offers brand exposure to a further 34 Facebook friends of that fan - a multiplier effect with massive potential."
It's mind boggling because, let's face it, it's free advertising, and this is our challenge, right? How many times in the last year have you been asked to promote a product on your radio station's or personality Facebook page? It's getting more frequent for me, because retailers know how important social proofing has become for their survival.

What has been your reaction to the request? I get instantly defensive. I'm so afraid of spamming my fans. I'm afraid they'll recognize the "paid status update" as an advertisement and either report it as spam, or just unfollow me.

I've been told by a sales rep that more and more businesses will only spend money with stations that include product placement on fan pages. This, my friend,  is the great debate we've been having around the station -- should we use our fan page to blatantly promote a sponsor?

I say no, unless they fall into these categories:
  1. It's something I believe in, use, and would recommend to my mom
  2. I'm there, at the business, and can leave a map marker or photo on my post to prove it
  3. I've promoted other products I use that have no investment in me or my station
Those are my rules...for now. I see a future, though, where clients pay a premium for not only a broadcast schedule, but a social networking schedule, as well. It's an interesting debate, and I'd love to hear how you're handling it. Is it a fight to stay spam-free at your station? Or are you all in on promoting clients using your Twitter and Facebook platforms? Send me an email.

Power Blog! Here's an idea starter to get eyes on your blog today:

"10 Things You Didn't Know About Me"

That's it. Just list 10 things you've never shared with your listeners. Could be big (I only have 7 fingers), or small (I love the smell of jet fuel at airports). What are your 10? Here's what will go on my station blog today (friday)...

10 Things I've Never Told You

I'll probably regret telling you most of these, but what the heck, here we go:

During my entire sophomore year of high school, I dressed like Alex P. Keaton.

The first instrument I ever learned to play: The organ

My first car was a yellow Chrysler K-Car with wood grain siding

I love the smell of jet fuel at the airport

I'm embarrassed for the person that can't get off their cell phone when paying for something.

I got married three days before September 11th, 2001

My family was in a horrible auto accident when I was 8-years old. A drunk driver ran a red light and hit our car which broke every bone down the right side of my body. My mom was in a coma, but thankfully survived. I still think about that day when I see someone blow through a red light.

Zombies freak me out.

In Michigan, I'm a certified fire fighter.

My fantasy is to one day learn to fly. My fear is I'll get airsick during my first flight.

Worth Mentioning

Interesting article from a woman who finally figured out how to stop nagging her husband. Nagging, as you know, is a leading contributor to divorce, so this is a pretty important break through. Her strategy: Texting. She sends a text to remind him of certain tasks. Why is a text better? Because a text doesn't carry a certain vocal "tone" along with "that face." Read the full thing here

What Never to Say To A Woman With...

...short hair. "It's funny how people think they have a license to say anything to women who cut their hair short," begins a piece from a woman that, yes, recently chopped off most of her hair. So, obviously feeling a little self-conscious about her new look, she came up with 7 things you should never say to a woman with short hair about her hair.

"May I help you, sir?"
"It totally reminds me of Sandy Duncan in 'Peter Pan.'"
"Did you just give up when you had the baby?"
"I loved you back when you had long hair."
"Don't worry, it'll grow back."
"You look so much better with short hair."
"Your short hair makes you look thinner."

The New Rules of Restaurant Etiquette

Tim Zagat, the co-founder of the fame Zagat Survey of restaurants, believes the old rules for restaurant etiquette need an update, so here's what he proposes:

1. Equality - Now that women earn as much or more as men, they should be treated as equals by the waitstaff in restaurants.

2. Paying for it - Whoever initiates a dinner date pays.

3. Ordering food - Gone are the days when women were expected to order first.

4. Handheld devices - Do not talk, tweet, email or surf the web at the table. It's rude.

5. Kids, kids, kids - It's fine to bring children, but not to places where they'd elevate the decibel level or restaurants that are meant to be romantic.

6. Dressing down or up - Dress casually. Hardly any restaurants require ties anymore. About the only rule left today is "don't be a slob."

7. Serious reservations - Treat your reservation as important commitments. Honor the reservation or cancel them on time.

8. Okay, now get out - Don't overstay your welcome at a busy restaurant. 60% in a survey support restaurants setting a time limit during peak hours.

9. Long live chivalry - Ladies, please humor men and let them open the door for you. It's not outdated.

10. Remember you're the customer - You should expect hospitable, efficient service and good food. If that doesn't happen, then take your money elsewhere and tell the next 10 people that you meet.

What is the rudest thing someone can do at a restaurant?

Nagging - the Marriage KILLER!

Want to make someone you don't even know feel instantly lonely? Do NOT look at them. A study found  those who received a glance and a smile from a passing stranger felt less disconnected from others. Conclusion - stop staring at your phone while walking.

Buying a car is a man's game, right? Not so fast, a new study by LeaseTrader found women are more careful and less superficial than their male counterparts. For example, 95% of women say they care most about the car's safety performance. That ranked just above incident history and functionality, which were second and third. For men, on the other hand, it's all about performance (translation: speed!). Fewer than half the men cared about the safety features. Source

Nagging -- the Relationship Killer!

Relation experts agree that constant nagging can spell doom for a relationship. Experts also add, and you may want to sit down for this, that women are more likely to nag than men. Why? Because women feel more responsible for managing the home and are therefore more sensitive to early signs of problems.

There is good news -- a nagging relationship can be saved before it is too late. Here are a few helpful tips to avoid "death by a thousand reminders:"

Calm down—both of you. Recognize the pattern you are in and talk about how to address it as a team. You will both need to change your behavior, and ground rules can help.

Look at it from the other person's perspective. 'Honey, when you ignore me I feel that you don't love me.' 'I feel that you don't appreciate what I am already doing when you nag me.'

If you are the nagger, realize you are asking for something. Use an 'I' not a 'you' statement. Say 'I would really like you to pay the Visa bill on time,' instead of 'You never pay the bill on time.'

Explain why your request is important to you. 'I worry about our finances when you pay the bill late. We can't afford to pay late fees.'

Manage your expectations. Make sure you are asking for something that is realistic and appropriate. Does the light bulb need to be changed immediately?

Set a timeframe. Ask when your partner can expect to finish the task. ('Can you change the car oil this weekend?') Let him tell you when it works best for him to do it.

•If you are the naggee, give a clear response to your partner's request. Tell her honestly if you can do what she asks and when. Then follow through. Do what you say you will do.

Consider alternative solutions. Maybe it's worth it to hire a handyman, rather than harm your relationship with arguing.

Joke of the Day

Two bats are hanging in their cave. One turns to the other and says,

"Oh, I'm really thirsty for some fresh blood."

The other bat is amazed and says, "Well, it’s a bit late. Daylight is almost here, and we can't be exposed to any light - you know we'll die." "Yeah, I know," says the first bat, "but I'm really starving for it."

So he flies out of the cave and returns five minutes later with blood dripping from his mouth.

"You lucky thing. Where'd you find blood that quick?" asked the second bat.

"You see that tree over there in the distance?" mumbled the bat, his mouth full of blood.

"Yeah, I think I do!"

"Well, I didn't."

How to Make Over Your Finances in 2 Hours

40 Minutes to save $400

Look at your previous 3 months of bank statements and check out how much you've been paying in fees. Between account maintenance and ATM fees, you're giving up a lot of extra money. Avoiding ATM fees alone could save more than $300 a year.

20 Minutes to save up to $300

Check your credit card bill monthly for any extra charges. Signing up for a free trial of one thing, could automatically sign you up for another. Example - a free security trial software automatically opts you in for insurance at $10 a month. That is what's called a "gray charge," and discovering a couple of them early can save a lot of headache.

25 minutes to save $1,000 a year or more

Put $42 a month into a savings account and use that money for the expenses you can't avoid like car repairs and children's birthday party gifts. Then sign up to automate deposits into your savings account to build up an emergency savings account in case you get laid off.

35 minutes to save $1,000 or more

Check out how much you're saving for retirement. If you make $50/grand, and put 4% into your 401(k), your company most likely throws in an additional $1500 a year. Raise that contribution to 7% ($58/month), and you'll save $6,125 a year.

3 Worst Tech Predictions in 2011

For every tech prediction that came true last year, a dozen were flat wrong. Here the top three:

1. The "ultra sexy" iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 was supposed to be thinner with a larger screen and rounded tear-drop shape profile. Not only was the iPhone 5 NOT sexy, but there was no iPhone 5.

2. Amazon will never make a tablet.

The Kindle Fire, priced at $200, sold 5-million units in its first month.

3. Facebook's Netflix impersonation.

Bloggers were sure Mark Zuckerberg would announce a Netflix style service for Facebook last September. Not even close. At least not yet.

Found: Engagement ring lodged in the same toilet 36 years later!

Terry happened to be working on a roof across the street from his former home when he saw the owners taking an old toilet outside. He asked if he could have it. He took it home and busted it open and there it was, still good after 36 years. "We cried and we laughed. We giggled and danced. It was great," said Donna.
