Joke of the Day

So one day, Gramma sent her grandson Johnny down to the water hole to get some water for cooking dinner. As he was dipping the bucket in, he saw two big eyes looking back at him. He dropped the bucket and hightailed it for Gramma's kitchen.

"Well now, where's my bucket and where's my water?" Gramma asked him. "I can't get any water from that water hole, Gramma" exclaimed Johnny. "There's a BIG ol' alligator down there!"

"Now don't you mind that ol' alligator, Johnny. He's been there for a few years now, and he's never hurt no one. Why, he's probably as scared of you as you are of him!" "Well, Gramma," replied Johnny, "if he's as scared of me as I am of him, then that water ain't fit to drink!"

The site's creator believes the reason falls on a husband that is thoughtless on her special day. Source

Girls Hate Exercise...thanks gym class!

This one is a little hard to believe, but a British study discovered that over half of girls are put off by physical activity because of their experience in gym class. 45% think sports are too competitive, and a third believe their PE teacher only pays attention to students who are good at sports.

Just under half of girls think "getting sweaty" is not feminine, half are self-conscious about their bodies, and 57% drop out because their friends do.

Our Worst Fear EVER

Forget spiders, being buried alive, heights, being caught naked at work (wait, what?), or any other rational fear you can think of... our BIGGEST fear is being separated from our cell phone!

66% of us are afraid of either losing or being separated from our phone. 41% say they have more than one phone.

There's a name for this, you know, and it's called "nomophobia." Nomophobia is defined as being out of contact with someone via mobile phone.

Women more than men are scared of losing their phones, but more men are likely to have more than one phone.

Facebook/Phones:  Do you have a fear even bigger than losing your cell phone?  It's hard to believe, I know, but what is that fear?  What has it kept you from doing that you always wanted to do?

One year my uncle decided to cheat on his income taxes. The problem was that he later started to feel so guilty that he couldn’t sleep.

After thinking about if for a while, he sent an anonymous cashier’s check for $100 to the IRS along with a note that read: “To Whom It May Concern, I cheated on my taxes and now I feel so guilty that I haven’t been able to sleep for weeks, so I’m sending you this check for one hundred dollars. I hope you forgive me.

P.S. If I still can’t sleep after one week, I’ll send you the rest of what I owe."

Only 13?

"Men, we're begging. Please help us understand." That's how Babble.com kicks off their list of the 13 things women will never understand about men. What they're asking is this -- "why can't men act more like women." So here's what baffles their mind...

Your Need to Fix Everything -- Babble is wondering why a guy needs to always come up with a solution when all women really want is for their man to listen...

Oblivious to a single detail -- Ok, so he can't remember your friend just had a baby, or the baby's name, but he can remember you're out of beer.

Sleeping through a crying baby -- They know you're not really sleeping. And they will remember.

The combover - Never fooled anyone. Even once

Not knowing when something's wrong -- Tip for men (for those that aren't married, that is), when she says "nothing" is wrong, it means "everything" is wrong. Settle in for a talk, Jack.

Your mother is a saint -- According to Babble, she's not. Not even close. Note to ladies: You'll one day be "that woman."

Sex Sucks...for now

And yet another study that was obvious from the start -- sex is tough for parents in their thirties. Really!

Why? Well, reason #1, they're parents. Add to that the financial stress that most parents feel and the fireworks in the bedroom start to fizzle. But keep your head up because things get better. The survey of 25,000 discovered that things start revving up again once you hit your 50's, and women have the greatest confidence in their bodies once they're in their 60's.

The Key to Happiness

Only if you're ready for this information will I be able to pass it along, because it's pretty heavy.

Ready?

Scientists have found the true key to happiness, and it nothing to do with money, TV, booze, or fast cars. The true key to happiness is: Appreciate the good times and stop comparing your experiences to those of others.

Whatever makes us happy in life -- a new relationship, a boat, etc -- can only continue to make us happy if we remember why it made us happy in the first place. Most of us get used to the happiness and then raise the standards of what will make us happy once again.

Some people stop having fun with a new relationship and start wishing their partner was better looking, for example.

If you appreciate what you have, and keep having new experiences, you'll maintain your happiness boost rather than fall back to where you started.

Personal: My neighbor just completed his man cave. He had someone throw a slab of cement in his crawl space, and then he added a workbench and a beer fridge. He says he's truly, deep down, happy right now.

Phones/Facebook: People you know don't seem to understand why (what) makes you so happy

Joke of the Day

A young man at this construction site was bragging that he could outdo anyone based on his strength. He especially made fun of one of the older workman. After several minutes, the older worker had enough.

"Why don't you put your money where you mouth is?" he said. "I'll bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to the other building that you won't be able to wheel back."

"You're on, old man," the young man replied. "Let's see what you've got."

The old man reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then nodding to the young man, he said with a smile, "All right. Get in."

5 Things You Should NEVER Say to Your Kids

"You're out of the will" is not one of them, so throw that one around all you want. But here are five things that could impact the relationship with your child.

"I don't care." (If you cut off the extreme detail kids get into about (almost everything), you're saying what's important to them isn't important to you)

"Act Your Age!" (They may, in fact, be acting their age)

"Say You're Sorry" (Forcing the kid to apologize does not teach social skills. Your kid learns by watching you apologize to others when needed)

"Don't You Get It? (You're actually saying "What's wrong with you?" Take a break and return to the lesson later)

"I'm Going to Leave You" (You're not going to leave your kid in the car alone while you go shopping, so don't leave empty threats. Kids pick up on this right away. If you plant a flag, you have to defend it).

Are Men Stupid?

...that's the question from a CNN blogger named Frida Ghitis. She wonders how "otherwise successful individuals...risk destroying their careers and their personal lives over the chance to have a sexual escapade?"

She uses John Edwards, the recently busted secret service agents, President Bill Clinton, and former NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer as examples. Ghitis doesn't buy the "testosterone argument," but instead blames their behavior on one thing: Arrogance..."the belief by some powerful men that they can get away with it."

Of course, they're not getting away with it as much anymore, but they still continue to do it...."a sign that the process will be slow. And that, in the final analysis, if it has to do with sex, some men really are stupid."

Radio Rude in 1989/ Radio rude in 2012

Hey guys (and gals)...here's to a great Thursday!

The first story below is a no-brainer for almost all demos -- "Rude behaviors we continually encounter." Of course, #1 on the list is people that let their kids run wild.

It got me to thinking what we might consider rude RADIO behavior in 2012. The standard for rude has changed so much since I got into radio in 1989. Here's how:

Rude in 1989: Not pulling at least an hour worth of commercial carts for the next jock during a shift change
Rude in 2012: Not having the commercial log loaded at 10am on Friday for weekend voice-tracking.

Rude in 1989: Discovering the studio is a complete mess with show prep scattered all over the board.
Rude in 2012: Discovering the last live jock on the air (12 hours ago) didn't log off the computer.

Rude in 1989: Leaving the next jock an empty reel of tape for recording phone calls
Rude in 2012: Leaving the next jock with a full hard drive

Rude in 1989: The overnight jock not making a full, fresh pot of coffee before leaving
Rude in 2012: The one overnight person in the cluster tracked out, ran to Starbucks, and brought you back nothing

Rude in 1989
: Not having enough T-shirts in all sizes for your listeners at a station appearance
Rude in 2012: People that ask for a T-shirt when they know all they're getting is a sticker.

Wow, that was fun! I could go on, but I need my beauty sleep. Have a great show, and as always, please click G+, Facebook, Twitter or email at the bottom of this blog to spread the word! Enjoy the Show Starters...

Rude!

What are the rudest behaviors EVER? A Yahoo! survey discovered the rudest behavior we continually encounter are parents that have no control over their kids in public. Of course, as a parent, I have empathy for a mom trying to grocery shop with four kids. We shouldn't pretend to know her circumstances, but some of us feel "so bothered" by laughing children.

Here's how the survey breaks down:

  1. Parents who don't supervise their children 56%
  2. Talking loudly on their cell phone 19%
  3. Rude waiters 8%
  4. Pet owners that don't clean up their dog's poop 7%
  5. Being late 7%

What? Spitting isn't on this list? Are you kidding me? Have you ever walked right behind someone who clears the deep bowls of his throat and then unloads it right in front of you? Kind of like what this lady did in front of a TV reporter the other day? At least she said "sorry I have a bad cold". Glorious.

Where do we encounter the rudest behavior?

  1. Retail stores
  2. Grocery stores
  3. Airports/airplanes
  4. Restaurants/coffee shops
  5. Gym

Best rule to remember if you encounter a rude waiter: "Never mess with a water until you've gotten your food."

Wild Dream Facts

You may be asleep, but your brain is very much awake, and here are a few things you need to know about your dreams:

1. Violent dreams can be a warning sign (...of Parkinson's disease and dementia)

2. Night owls have more nightmares (the reason is unknown, but one theory says cortisol, which peaks in the morning right before we wake up, triggers vivid dreams if we're still sleeping)

3. Men dream about sex (...and to balance it out, women are more likely to experience nightmares)

4. You can control your dreams (...but only if you're used to playing video games. Video gamers can control their dream worlds, as if they're controlling a video game character. Gamers are better at turning a nightmare into a carefree dream)

The Worst Kid Drinks For a Kid

Why are too many kids so fat in 2012? Just look at what they're drinking. The Centers for Disease Control say sweetened beverages are the biggest source of empty carbs in children's diets are do nothing but expand waist lines.

Kids should only get 3 teaspoons of sugar a day, but the average 4 to 8 year old is getting 21 teaspoons per day on average. YIKES!

So Debbie Beauvais, who speaks for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is pushing for parents to stay away from the worst of the worst drinks -- aimed right at your kids.
  • Hi-C (One little carton has more sugar per ounce than in a regular Coke!)
  • Hawaiian Punch (Not only does a serving have 70 calories and 17 grams of sugar, but it also includes the artificial coloring "Red 40" we've been warned to stay away from)
  • Sunny D (just 5% actual juice, but 11 grams of sugar in a 6.75 ounce bottle)
  • Capri Sun (6 ounces has 60 calories and 16 g's of sugar)
  • Dannon Danimals (70 calories and 14 g's of sugar
Debbie says to replace the above with healthier alternatives like water (4 glasses a day), pure juice (not juice drinks and only 1 cup a day), and low-fat milk (2 to 3 cups each day).

10 WAYS TO FIND HAPPINESS

I thought Bobby McFerrin had the best solution -- "Don't worry...be happy," but you may be the kind of person that requires a little more detail, so here are 10 tips to finding happiness from Dr. Barton Goldsmith.

  1. Be with others who make you smile (Studies prove we're happier around those that are also happy)
  2. Hold on to your values (What you find true, what you know is fair, and what you believe in -- never let those go)
  3. Accept the good (take stock of what's working in your life!)
  4. Imagine the best (vision yourself getting what you really want)
  5. Do things you love
  6. Find purpose (find a way of contributing to the well-being of humanity. People tend to find great pride in that)
  7. Listen to your heart (keep your day job for the time being, but follow your passions)
  8. Push yourself, not others (Stop blaming others and you'll find your answers much sooner)
  9. Be open to change (change happens, so emotionally shore yourself up for the experience)
  10. Bask in the simple pleasures (silly jokes, warm days, starry nights)

Radio Personalities and Sleep; Two Natural Enemies

"30 percent of employed U.S. adults reported getting less than six hours of sleep a night, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in its report."

During a recent trip to Boston I got 8 hours of sleep -- in a row! Oh sure I woke up several dozen times thinking I was late for something, but still, I was in bed for 8 hours. Pretty dang impressive.

Here's the crazy result... I was in a great mood all day! Imagine that! If only it could be like that every day. But no. I chose radio. That's why this survey in Live Science is interesting, because what some view as a problem, I see as something different -- a society where 70% of us are getting more than 6 hours a night! That's pretty dang good, because it ain't happening in radio.

Proof -- just walk down any hallway after 10am, and watch what crawls out of the studios. Zombies that just signed off the air. I'm one of those zombies, except this zombie now has children, which makes the problem even worse!

Science tells us fatigue messes with your head. It makes you work harder for that thought, that joke, and that cheerful delivery. So what do you do? Let's say you had to take a pack of listeners to the Lady Gaga concert Thursday night, and then be back on the air by 5 the next morning. How do you jolt your brain into action?

I found a list of GREAT tips from wikihow.com on how to grab some quick energy when its needed most. Here are a few tips:

Get active - grab a basketball, take a bike ride, or dance.

Drink water - staying hydrated gives you energy

Breathe Deeply - gives your body a chance to regain awareness

Yoga - Yoga apparently is a fast way to regain energy

Energy food - eat bananas or other healthy snacks that release energy over an extended period of time

***My fav**** Pour cold water over each wrist - It gets the blood circulating

Drink a cup of ice, or pour it down your back/pants - um, okay.

Do small tasks first - saves your energy for the bigger stuff later

Don't procrastinate - get the work done and then have fun

Wash cold water over your face

All of those make pretty good sense, except the one where you dump ice down your shorts. If you're that tired, seriously,  take the rest of the morning off and fall asleep in your office.

There ya go! As for me, it's off to bed, a place I should have been hours ago, and up again in 4 1/2 hours. Woo hoo! Have a great show!

More prep will come your way tomorrow on this blog space.  If you enjoyed what you just learned above, please do me a favor and click one of the links below to share on Facebook, Twitter, G+, and email.   I appreciate it!

Radio Prep, Now Gluten Free!

Hope you had a great weekend. It was another crazy one for me full of soccer games and station appearances. The highlight of my weekend was a charity ball I attended for the local children's museum. I had no idea my wife and I sat on the planning board. I don't remember planning a thing, but if I did, I sure did a great job because it was fun.

I had a morning show visit and station tour up for auction, and as I'm sure you can relate, it's hard not to keep checking the latest bid. This ball used electronic bidding devices that you carry around (like an iPhone), so I could obsessively check the latest bid from anywhere. I was half tempted to throw some money at myself, but decided against it after imagining how awkward the tour would be. At the end of the night, I'm proud to report that my show got the highest bid out of all the media options (including TV)! And you'll just have to trust when I say that I wasn't the winning bidder (but it was tempting)!

Two things for tomorrow: No updated prep will occupy this space. Taking tomorrow off for a project I need to work on. BUT! I will have a cool article to read about sleep, and why that word means nothing to radio personalities. I'll have some quick tips to help wake you up, too! Have a great show! Enjoy the prep!

Joke of the Day

A businessman dragged himself home and barely made it to his chair before he dropped exhausted.

His sympathetic wife was right there with a tall cool drink and a comforting word. "My, you look tired," she said. "You must have had a hard day today. What happened to make you so exhausted?"

"It was terrible," her husband said. "The computer broke down and all of us had to do our own thinking." Drop: Laugh

10 Ways To Find Happiness

I thought Bobby McFerrin had the best solution -- "Don't worry...be happy." (PLAY) That's it. Just stop worrying. You may be the kind of person that requires a little more detail, so here are 10 tips to finding happiness from Dr.

How to Live to 100

If you're looking to annoy your kids for years and years to come, there is a way, and researchers think they have figured it out. Scientists in Sicily studied people living in five villages in the island's Sicani Mountains region where there are four times as many people living over 100 than the national average. Here's what they all had in common...

  • A healthy "Mediterranean-style" diet with high amounts of fruits and veggies, and low levels of saturated fat.
  • They eat a lot of seasonal plant food
  • They eat low levels of meat
  • They consume low levels of refined carbohydrates, meaning white bread and pasta.
  • They say no to sweeteners and sweet beverages, canned food, frozen ready-prepared veggies, biscuits, cakes, and snacks.

What it boils down to is this: Follow a diet with low levels of saturated fat and high levels of fruits and veggies rich in phytochemicals. These are cancer killers and heart protectors.

Parking Excuses

A British study found that, like Americans, we'll do anything to get out of a parking ticket, even though we don't really think parking violations count as breaking the law. 1 in 12 drivers have talked themselves out of a parking ticket, even though a full 15% regularly park illegally because it's easier to pay the fine than to park elsewhere.

Here are the top 5 excuses given for avoiding a parking fine:

1. The regulations were not clear (9%)
2. I was only gone briefly (6%)
3. I was looking for a place to buy a ticket (5%)
4. I had a personal emergency (4%)
5. My ticket went missing (3%)

8 Things That Will Tick Off the Bride!

We all have a wedding on our calendar over the next three months, right? So these rules are for us. From DivineCaroline.com, here are 8 sure-fire ways to awaken a bridezilla -- translation: Make the bride lose her sanity:
  1. RSVP late, or not at all. Especially don't RSVP the day before then decide not to come. If you do, avoid contact with her for the rest of your life.
  2. Mess with the seating chart. Keep your mouth shut and deal with the jerk you're sitting next to.
  3. Invite another person. Unless you're given a plus-one, don't bring someone
  4. Complain about something
  5. Dine and ditch. If you only have 30 minutes for the reception, just skip it.
  6. Forgo a gift. Keep in mind that the average wedding spends about $80 on each guest.
  7. Forget to check the gift registry. If you go off the gift radar, make sure it is truely a one-of-a-kind.  Getting them a toaster or blender when they've already registered for one is just annoying.
  8. Cause a scene. She'll notice if you get drunk. 'Nuff said.

Phones/Facebook: C'mon former brides, they're surely missing something from this list... what?

Pop Quiz!

10% of couples have considered splitting up over this...
  • His mother
  • His snoring
  • Her obsession with shoes

Answer: His snoring! (PLAY)

A survey found we fight about twice per week over all the (bad) noise made in bed. More than 20% lose two hours of sleep every night because of the noise.

Personal: As I got older, the snoring got worse. It got so bad that I started sleeping in the spare bedroom. Snoring can really tear apart your relationship. I went into a sleep clinic, and now wear a CPAP mask which has not only completely stopped the snoring, but has also allowed me to get much deeper and more restful sleep. Before the CPAP machine, I was only getting a few minutes of deep REM every night. I now get several hours. My wife now sleeps deeper than she has in the past 10 years. It's a miracle and something I highly recommend to dudes that are too stubborn to address their chainsaw snoring every night.

Still smiling, she waited for them to sit down. Then she said: "First Question: Which tire was flat?"

Don't OD on Vitamins

U.S. Researchers, writing in the Journal of the National Cancer Insitute, are scared that we may be going overboard on supplements we think will prevent cancer and make us healthier. They say pills like folic acid, vitamin D and calcium do not reduce the risk of cancer.

Worse -- Antioxidant pills such as beta carotene, and vitamins C and E "may even PROMOTE the disease."

They recommend taking it easy on the pills and instead eat healthy foods which includes a wide variety of fruit and veggies.

"For most healhty people therre should be no need to take suppliments."

Male/Female Stereotypes That Used to Be the Complete Opposite

Pink is for girls, eh? Not in 1918! A 1918 editorial from Earnshaw's Infants' Department declared that pink was "a more decided and stronger color...more suitable for the boy; while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." That didn't change until the 40's. Also, dresses weren't just for little girls, but for little boys, too.

Crying Used to Equal Manliness. In ancient Greek culture, men were expected to cry if their familiy's honor were in question. It was one of the greatest signs of true manliness. Even Japanese samurai and midieval heroes cried like babies. It meant you cared and were confident.

A "Man's Place" and a "Woman's Place" is Whatever Makes the Most Economic Sense. More women are rockin' in the workplace, and more men are staying home. It wasn't too long ago when men dominated the workplace, and women stayed home. But in the 1800's, there wasn't really a difference. Dad's knew how to change diapers and do dishes. The point was to make sure the kid lived long enough to help out on the farm. The idea of a "man's world" and "woman's world" didn't develop until the Industrial Revolution.

Cheaters!

Shocking new statistics have discovered that close to 50% of people in committed relationships have cheated... with MONEY! Maybe that's not so shocking. We've all fibbed a little when it comes to spending, right? The most common financial fib involves shopping.
  • More than 25% of women and 8% of guys have pretended something was old when it was actually brand new
  • 32% of women have hidden purchases from their partner.

There's a serious side to this, of course, with less than 10% confessing to opening a secret bank account, or having secret credit cards.

"To have a successful relationship, you need to have trust, and hiding money secrets is a huge way to break that confidence,"  says the business editor for the Today Show.

Joke of the Day

Late one afternoon the Air Force staff out at Area 51 were very surprised to see a Cessna landing at their "secret" base. They immediately impounded the aircraft and hauled the pilot into an interrogation room.

The pilot's story was that he took off from Vegas, got lost, and spotted the base just as he was about to run out of fuel. The Air Force started a full background check on the pilot and held him overnight during the investigation.

By the next day, they were finally convinced that the pilot really was lost and wasn't a spy. They gassed up his airplane, gave him a terrifying "you-did-not-see-a-base" briefing, complete with threats of spending the rest of his life in prison and sent him on his way. The day after that though, to the total disbelief of the Air Force, the same Cessna showed up again. Once again, the MP's surrounded the plane, only this time there were two people in the plane.

The same pilot jumped out and said, "Do anything you want to me, but my wife is in the plane and you have to tell her where I was last night!"

6 Little White Lies Moms Tell Their Babysitters

From the Cafemom blog... those little lies you'll tell to get a sitter over your house.

1. "The baby will go right down for a nap, no problem," knowing darn well that the child hates naps and will fight naps to the death.

2. "The children have been fed and will require no snacks before bed time," knowing that every night at bed time, your children escape the bed no less than seven times in the name of crackers, apples and water.

3. "We don't let the kids watch television."

4. "Bobby's allergic to processed food and has a weird skin reaction that lasts for days." This white lie ensures that the babysitter will feed your child a wholesome meal rather than hot dogs and Cheetos.

5. "We have security cameras throughout the house. If you get in trouble, just give us the thumbs down sign and we will come right home."

6. "We'll try to be back before the kids go to bed," knowing that you want to be somewhere, anywhere else

Phones/Facebook: What little white lie have you told your babysitter to keep them on their toes?

My One Little Tweak that Has Made Me a Better Performer

Good morning, my friend! Cheers to a terrific show and another day of employment in radio! Woo hoo!

I was reading this list of the 8 habits of highly productive people, and a couple of 'em made me laugh. I'm not saying they don't make sense -- they just don't apply to my life.

...they start their day off on the right foot...

"According to a recent study at the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University, if an employee is in a bad mood when they arrive at work-whether because of familial problems or a stressful commute-it can decrease their productivity by as much as 10% that day. So unless you come in to the office every day in a great mood (and who does?), start your day with 5 to 10 minutes of time dedicated to decompressing. "Create a ritual. Maybe it's meeting in the coffee break room or going around the office to greet everyone. It doesn't matter what you do, as long as you foster a sense of connection [with your coworkers]," Says Holhbaum."

Right! Here's my day. Up at 2:30am to hang with my wife (she's a morning anchor) until she leaves at 3. Scan some prep. Shower - eat - wait for the babysitter to show up at 4:30, then zip out the door. I'm pulling my headphones out of my backpack as I enter the studio.  On the air at 5am.

There's no time to greet everyone on the floor. Caffeine is my "ritual." That's why the prep you see is laid out the way it is -- for quick execution. Here's one from the list that make a lot of sense to me, though:

...make mindful food choices...

They go on to talk about avoiding heavy mid-day meals. But, for what we do, I think the most important meal of the day is breakfast. Over the last year I've started preparing a protein-packed breakfast (omelet packed with spinach covered with salsa!) the night before. I make one for myself and my wife. Eating that before work has improved my performance dramatically. Don't go on the air hungry -- that's a buzz kill.

Here's the full list:

And the Job With the Shiniest Heads Goes to...

A new survey found the baldest guys work in sales. 60% of sellers say they have lost their hair, or at least have started to, because of stress from the job.

Most say they had a full head of hair when they started (sure!) but lost it all after the pressure to sell became more intense in a difficult economy.

Sellers are number one on the shiny head list, with web developers second, followed by software engineers in third.

Fact: Hair loss affects 40% of men under 35.

Get Used to Us, Ladies!

We've all gotten used to the notion that a woman will outlive the man in her life... or will she? Get this -- new research found that not only will men today live as long as women, but younger boys could go on to surpass a female's life span.

If boys born in the last decade reach 30, they can expect to live to 87.1 -- the same average for a woman.

Reasons include fewer men working in heavy industry, fewer men smoking, and better treatment for heart disease.

So get used to us ladies -- we're here to annoy you for many, many years.

Hiding Is Not An Exercise

A survey from the mental health charity Mind found 9 out of 10 women are scared to exercise outdoors for fear of looking unattractive. Many resort to waiting until the sun sets to get in a walk or run, and that can't be safe.

Problem solved!

Other research from Dove found 13% of women have no problem with their appearance, and even call themselves "beautiful."

But other research discovered that a nice compliment beat sex, shopping and even chocolate when it comes to boosting their mood.

I'll Have What She's Having

You've got to be kidding -- Virginia Fike, 44, from Clarke County, Virginia, bought a Powerball ticket early in the day on April 7th. She went back to the same store later in the day to buy a Mega Millions, but accidentally bought another Powerball using the same numbers. Both tickets turned out to be winners -- $1-MILLION EACH.

The winning numbers she picked were based on the marriage of her parents. They wed May 13 when her mother was 17 and her father was 20. She picked 5-13-17-20-30.

She plans to pay off some bills first, and then consult a financial expert to help her out with what's left.

Phones/Facebook: Virginia Fike won twice on the same day with the Powerball lottery - $1-million each. She meant to buy one Powerball and one Mega Millions, but accidentally bought two Powerball tickets. Have you ever had a mistake that turned out to be awesome?

That's it!

Two drunks are walking along. One drunk says to the other, "What a beautiful night, look at the moon."

The other drunk stops and looks at his drunken friend, "You are wrong. That's not the moon, that's the sun."

Both started arguing for a while when they came upon another drunk walking, so they stopped him. "Sir, could you please help settle our argument? Tell us what that thing is up in the sky that's shining. Is it the moon or the sun?"

The third drunk looked at the sky and then looked at them and said, "Sorry, I don't live around here.

Facebook Is Draining Your Wallet!

The average Facebook user wastes devotes eight hours a month to the social network, and that not only translates into lost time, but lost bucks, too.

A survey from online marketing experts Sociable Labs discovered that we are heavily influenced into buying products our Facebook friends "like" or recommend. It's called 'social proofing', and three-quarters of us have clicked on product links shared or "liked" by friends on the site.

After clicking, more than half of us ended up buying the product.

Pinterest Interest Dropping?

Could the social media craze of 2012 be losing steam? Pinterest had crazy growth in January and February but is unexpectedly losing users this month. It seems monthly active users are down from 11.15 million on April 1st to 8.3 million today. Time to hit the panic button? Hardly. It's speculated that the meteoric rise in growth were from people just curious to try it out for a couple days. The core audience, women, are still passionate about the site.

Fact: Pinterest is not the third most popular social networking site behind Facebook and Twitter.

Lawsuit of the Day

A group of parents are suing Apple because their children spent real money playing games on their parent's iPhones and iPads. The suit claims youngsters can purchase "game currencies" without their parents knowing. Games like Smurf Village are free, but the 1,000 credits involved in using the game costs $59.

The children named in the suit spent anywhere from $100 to $340 of their parent's money playing the games. Games that the suit calem are addictive, and used to generate more money for the company.

Apple claims no responsibility because parents agree to the stated terms and conditions before downloading the app.

Worst Wedding Pictures Ever

Are these the world's WORST wedding photos ever? It's possible.

Thomas and Anneka Geary hired 2 photographers to capture their special day, but what they got back were a series of disasters, including...
  • A photo of the couple signing the marriage register with a mysterious hand in the background holding a toy motorcycle (which was Anneka's 3-year-old nephew)
  • Shots of the bride and groom walking through the door with cardboard boxes in the foreground
  • A shot of the entire family posed on steps with a child's head popping up at the bottom of the photo
  • A shot of friends and family toasting the couple -- no faces are seen, just the back of heads
The photographers would love to refund their money, but the firm went out of business after paying off a string of disgruntled customers.
