Worth a Mention

More incredibly sad stories are still coming out of the tornadoes that devastated the South and Midwest over the weekend.  There are also moments of pure selflessness, too, like Stephanie Decker who threw herself over her two young children as their home collapsed around them in Henryville, Indiana.  Doctors ended up removing both of Stephanie's legs -- her children survived and are just fine thanks to mom.

Here's the death toll (as of Monday):
  • Alabama: 1
  • Georgia: 1
  • Indiana: 13
  • Kentucky: 21
  • Ohio: 3

Isn't it annoying when your cell phone runs out of battery before lunchtime?  Look for those problems to end on March 15th when the SpareOne mobile phone is released with a battery life of 15 YEARS!  Before we get too excited, the phone is designed to be used only in emergencies, and should be stored in your glove compartment or backpack.  It has no camera, web browser or touch screen (which means, and you may want to sit down for this...no Angry Birds).  It's simply a phone designed to be used in an emergency.  Imagine that, a phone that's just...a phone!  Source

Hey guys with beards, I've got some good news and bad news this morning.  First the good news:  Guys with beards command respect -- at least from other guys.  The bad news:  Women hate beards.  They prefer the clean-shaven look, adding that beards make guys look "aggressive" and "older."  Source

Why are guys able to grow beards in the first place?  Scientists have interesting theories.  One suggests that beards actually protect men.  Protection from the sun's damaging rays against their sensitive facial skin, and protection from a punch to the jaw by acting a a buffer.  There are others that say a beard is a sign of a strong immune system because disease-carrying parasites thrive in body hair, so if a guy with a beard doesn't get ill, he must be extra healthy.

Could this be the most embarrassing wedding moment of all time?  Caught on video, a Russian bride walking down the aisle when her heel catches her skirt, ripping it off her body, and exposing her bare behind to the crowd.  She grabs the dress and runs away.  Even if this is a fake, is it really impossible to think it couldn't happen?

Anyone have a story that comes close to that?

4 Celebrity Diets to Avoid

Here's one you can debate around the kitchen table.  4 diets that are all the rage in Hollywood.  EatingWell Magazine breaks down the diet, and what's missing.

1. Paleo Diet -- Also called the Caveman Diet, you're supposed to eat like cavemen which means a lot of animal protein, "natural" carbs (fruits and veggies) and some nuts.  Eating Well magazine says the lack of dairy is the problem.  You're not getting enough calcium and vitamin D.

2. Dukan Diet -- This is the so-called "French Atkins" that Jennifer Lopez, Gisele Bundchen, and Kate Middleton have used to lose weight.  It, again, is a high protein diet with a small amount of oat bran each day.  There are three phases that slowly introduce fruit and veggies back in your daily routine.  What's missing:  Again, dairy for calcium and vitamin D, plus disease fighting compounds from fruits and whole grains.

3. Raw Food Diet -- A favorite of Demi Moore, Amanda Seyfried, and Uma Thurman.  The name of the diet says it all -- you eat raw food.  Your food can't be cooked above 118 degrees.  Milk, cheese, and raw fish and meats are part of this plan.  What's missing:  Many on this diet don't get enough meat, fish, eggs, poultry or dairy, which takes away vitamin B-12 which transforms fat and protein to energy.

4. 17-Day Diet -- Dr. Phil is a fan of this plan, which consists of cycles that are 17 days long each.  Cycle 1 is like any high protein diet above.  Cycle 2 introduces whole grains and starchy veggies.  What's missing: Variety of fruits, veggies and grains which studies show lengthen your life.

Joke of the Day

One guy to another, “Last week I took the first step towards getting divorced.”
“Did you see a lawyer?”
“No, I got married.”
