Hey guys -- hope you're having a nice week. The pollen is THICK here in the south. In fact, a quick glance at pollen.com confirms it.
So I gave a tour of the radio cluster to a group of college kids taking a radio production course. Many told me they want jobs in radio when they graduated, but the excitement was lacking as we walked through the station. I introduced them to my OM and my GM. They had their ear and could ask any question, and I was a bit disappointed when very few were asked.
Many of these students are college SENIORS, mind you, who will be looking for work in a couple months. I'd be asking question after question after...
Anyway, I just wonder if there's an excitement and fascination for radio in anyone under 25 years old. Oh well...job security for us, I suppose. Have a great show today! I hope the notes below fill a couple breaks.
Jewelry Bonus!
Well isn't this special? Researchers purchased 99 items of jewelry from stores across the nation, and guess what -- 57% of them contained harmful chemicals such as lead, cadmium, and chromium. HealthyStuff.org broke it the findings down:
Well isn't this special? Researchers purchased 99 items of jewelry from stores across the nation, and guess what -- 57% of them contained harmful chemicals such as lead, cadmium, and chromium. HealthyStuff.org broke it the findings down:
- 27% contained greater than 300 million ppm odea in one or more components -- even when they were marked lead-free. 300-million ppm lead is the limit of lead in kid's products.
- 10% of jewelry contained greater than 100 ppm cadmium, a known carcinogen.
- 93% of jewelry contained more than 100 ppm chromium
- 13% of jewelry contained greater than 100 ppm arsenic
The Ecology Center links these substances to acute allergies and possible birth defects, cognitive impairment, liver toxicity, and cancer.
But they also make you look FAB-U-LOUS!

Why don't guys like short hair?
Michelle Williams is sporting a close-cut on top these days, and told Elle magazine that she feels "like myself with short hair...of course, the only people who like it are gay men and my girlfriends. Straight men across the board are not into this hair!"
Is that true, or is she just being a woman and lumping all men into one corner? Nope, she's right.
A university study in Hungary found men overwhelmingly prefer long hair to short hair. Researchers think this may have something to do with the idea that long hair means good genes since it take years to grow healthy, long hair.
A study of 50 men by beautyriot.com came to the same conclusion when most men picked Ashlee Simpson's long waves as their favorite hair style. See the entire galleryhere

First Date No-No's
Great list from the Cafe Mom website of things you should never talk about on a first date, if you're interested in having a second. Here are three biggies from the list:
3. Please, please, do not mention A) The Bachelor, B) that you've memorized lines from a reality show.
2. Everyone knows that you shouldn't talk about your ex on a first date, but not everyone knows that you shouldn't talk about that poor ex-cuse for a mother that you have. Don't bring up your innermost family issues. Too soon.
1. Do not mention that your arms are really sore from carrying Costco-size bags of cat food for blocks and blocks because you're too poor to take a cab.
Phones/Facebook: Have another no-no from personal experience to add?

Joke of the Day
The parents of a difficult boy were discussing what to give him for a birthday present. The mother said, “Let’s buy him a bicycle.”
“Well,” said the father, “maybe – but do you think it will improve his behavior?”
“Probably not,” said the mother, “but it will spread it over a wider area.”
