joke of the day

A married couple was celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. At the party everybody wanted to know how they managed to stay married so long in this day and age. The husband responded "When we were first married we came to an agreement. I would make all the major decisions and my wife would make all the minor decisions. And in 60 years of marriage we have never needed to make a major decision."

Dad-ducation

Where do dads go to learn how to be dads? They just kind of 'ask around', that's how. A survey found that men are more actively involved in their children's lives than ever before, and are searching for advice to help them along.
  • 80% of men were eager to learn more about becoming a parent
  • A third felt they were left in the dark by pregnancy websites skewed towards moms
  • Men turn to books -- more than half read book on pregnancy, and 30% about fatherhood
  • 70% sought advice from their partners, and...
  • 55% ask for advice from their dad
Tip: Advice for dads from a dad. The best website I turned to for information is BabyCenter.com. They send you a week by week progress report on your baby's (and mom's) development before and after birth. Best part -- it's short and too the point. Oh, free, too.

4 Ways to Know If Your Marriage Will Survive

Researchers have discovered 4 keys to a successful marriage. These are questions that can be answered even while engaged... do not ignore these warning signs --
  1. Eye-rolling - Does he listen to your concerns or dismiss them? If he always seems to roll his eyes over your concerns, he's trouble.
  2. Insufficient responses - Does he act on your concerns? If you're concerned about money, and he runs out and splurges on a new car, that indicates trouble ahead.
  3. Heavy-duty spending - Is he obsessed with his appearance, and the wealth of others? Danger ahead.
  4. No relationship education course. They compare relationships to sledding, you just hop on and enjoy the ride. Marriage on the other hand is like skiing, and that takes lessons and skill. Couples who complete marriage education courses are more successful at keeping their relationship together than those who assume they'll be just fine.

Phones/Facebook:    Take it from a dude, ladies, you can't change a dude. Who he is now will only become more exaggerated after marriage.  Agree?

To-Don't List

71% of women and 60% of men throw together a to-do list every day, but only 11% actually check everything off. Why? Because of the daily unknowns. Unplanned tasks like phone calls, meetings and email.

So CBS MoneyWatch has a solution -- take a week and keep track of your time. After a week, you'll discover how much of your day is devoted to 'knowns and 'unknowns'.

Then construct a shorter list to buffer the daily unknowns. Also, it wouldn't hurt to put a couple of fun things on your to-do list so you have something to look forward to.

Best Burgers in the U.S.

Food and Wine named the best burgers in the U.S.:
  • The Minetta Tavern in NYC has the Black Label Burger, a beef blend of dry-aged rib eye, skirt steak, brisket and short rib, topped with caramelized onions.
  • Holeman and Finch in Atlanta serves up a double cheeseburger on the Sunday brunch menu. Two dozen grass-fed beef burgers sell out in minutes after the ringing of two bull horns.
  • the In-N-Out burger in California made the list. Cooked to order burgers made from beef from Southwest ranches and served with hand-cut fries.
