Personal

I listen to a lot of podcasts. A LOT of podcasts. I love 'em...mostly because they're made by people that have only one motivation -- the passion for their topic.

These amateur hosts don't care about getting rich or famous, or hitting the post, or speaking into an $800 microphone that makes us all sound like 'real men.' Nope, the only thing that drives these men and women are their passion -- like knitting, trains or model airplanes. They love their hobby. I listen to podcasts about video games, model trains, and general aviation, which is funny because I don't play video games, run trains, or fly. The only reason I listen to those shows is because the hosts love the subject so dang much that they make it entertaining. They make me want to play video games, run trains, and fly.

If you don't listen to podcasts, head here.  Stitcher is an online network of podcasts that make whatever you're interested in easy to find.

Now don't get me wrong, I also listen to radio podcoasts from around the country, and here's one of my fav's: The Mancow Experience. There's only one Mancow, and he's as hot as ever. His full podcast is for premium members, but the freebie plays the first ten minutes of his show.

Have a favorite podcast, radio or otherwise? Let me know!

Those Dryin' Eyes

More and more young people are developing an eye problem that usually affects those much older. The problem is called 'dry eye," a condition that results in gritty, itchy, and inflamed eyes.

Why? What has changed over the last decade that is making people forget to blink?

THANK YOU, iPAD!!!

Yes, the iPad, and computers overall, is being blamed for turning young eyes old.

We normally blink 12 to 15 times a minute, but the iPad has cut that down to 7 or 8. What to do? Turn off your computer and iPad? NO WAY! Here are some tips:

  • Take a screen break
  • Change the focus of your eyes by looking into the distance
  • Make a concentrated effort to blink more
  • Use tear substitutes.

Facebook Hates me!

Facebook makes us feel fat! New research by The Center for Eating Disorders discovered that Facebook users are more self-conscious because they constantly see pictures of themselves. 32% said they felt "sad" when comparing Facebook photos of themselves to their friends' photos

The survey also discovered that Facebook is making us feel like we should be "camera ready" at all times. Half of us say we are nervous at social events because photos taken could be posted on Facebook. 43% avoid photos when we don't feel we "look our best."

One more -- The timeline feature is stressing us out. 53% of us look at the timeline and can't help but stress out over how much our body has changed over time.

Thanks, Facebook!

Your First Date Should Be Your Last When He Does (this)....

Here are four deal-breakers that should scream he's not "Mr. Wonderful!"

1. He gets drunk (even noticeably tipsy) on the first date. Also, if he picks you up with alcohol on his breath, that may show signs of a problem

2. He is rude to the waiter. If he's rude to others, you can be sure it'll be directed back at you one day.

3. He's checking out other women. 'Nuff said.

4. It's just plain boring. If it's boring right out of the gate, why would you think it will magically get better?

Phones/Facebook: Is one date really enough to know, or does everyone deserve a second chance? Who's happy they didn't dump him after only one date? Source

7 Foods that Burn Fat

Eat a few too many "Final Four" nachos this weekend? You may want to include the following 7 in your diet to help burn off the fat:

Chicken Breast - "The ultimate wonder food" packed with protein to maintain your calorie burning muscles.

Greek Yogurt - Again, more protein is found in Greek yogurt than other dairy products

Green Tea - Two to four cups a day can burn an extra 50 calories a day

Eggs - A fat-melting morning meal because of, yes, the protein, which also keeps you full longer.

Cold Water - Drinking cold water triggers your body to expend energy warming the water up to your natural temperature.

Chili Pepper - The hot stuff in chili pepper, capsaicin, is a fat burner. Add a tablespoon of chopped chilies to your pizza or soup.

Pistachios - This nut contains a perfect combo of healthy fat, protein, and fiber, which revs up your metabolism and keeps you feeling satisfied.
