"hannah storm" - ESPN has suspended "Pardon the Interruption" host Tony Kornheiser for two weeks for making "hurtful and personal comments" about SportsCenter co-anchor Hannah Storm. On his radio show, Kornheiser called Storm's outfit "horrifying".
"She's got on red go-go boots and a Catholic-school plaid skirt ... way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now ... She looks like she has sausage casing wrapping around her upper body ... Come on now! Stop! What are you doing?"
"scott van pelt" - It was not a good day for ESPN yesterday. Not only was Tony Kornheiser suspended, but SportsCenter host Scott Van Pelt thought he had an exclusive telephone interview with Brian Westbrook, veteran runningback who was just released from the Philadelphia Eagles. As he soon learned, it wasn't Westbrook he was interviewing at all, but someone called Captain Janks from the Howard Stern show who specializes in prank phone calls. The video is here
"lauren ashley" - Politicians say it all the time, from our President on down, but when a beauty queen says it, it's big news. Miss Beverly Hills 2010, Lauren Ashley, told Pop Tarts yesterday that she feels traditional marriage should be reserved for a man and a woman. In fact, she went a little further:
You may remember the big hub bub Carrie Prejean made about similar comments during the Miss USA pageant. What do Miss California USA officials say about it all?
"The Miss California USA system has always had a place for an individual's thoughts and opinions when it comes to all sides of political issues...It is an organization which empowers women, and everyone is entitled to their own beliefs."

Light 'em up!Answer this -- This may sound strange to everyone else, but (this) makes me happy...
New research finds that yes, we can make ourselves happy. We weren't genetically engineered to be miserable sloths. Here are the five ways to make ourselves happy:
1. Be grateful - Some study participants were asked to write letters of gratitude to people who had helped them in some way. The study found that these people reported a lasting increase in happiness - over weeks and even months - after implementing the habit. What's even more surprising: Sending the letter is not necessary. Even when people wrote letters but never delivered them to the addressee, they still reported feeling better afterwards
2. Be optimistic - Another practice that seems to help is optimistic thinking. Study participants were asked to visualize an ideal future - for example, living with a loving and supportive partner, or finding a job that was fulfilling - and describe the image in a journal entry. After doing this for a few weeks, these people too reported increased feelings of well-being.
3. Count your blessings - People who practice writing down three good things that have happened to them every week show significant boosts in happiness, studies have found. It seems the act of focusing on the positive helps people remember reasons to be glad.
4. Use your strengths - Another study asked people to identify their greatest strengths, and then to try to use these strengths in new ways. For example, someone who says they have a good sense of humor could try telling jokes to lighten up business meetings or cheer up sad friends. This habit, too, seems to heighten happiness
5. Commit acts of kindness - It turns out helping others also helps ourselves. People who donate time or money to charity, or who altruistically assist people in need, report improvements in their own happiness.
Lyubomirsky has also created an iPhone application, called Live Happy, to help people boost their well-being.

Will our kids hate us later in life?
Interesting story out of Beijing where it costs more to send your child to kindergarten than college! Why? Too many kids, not enough schools. Parents talk about how competitive it is to get their kids into a private or public kindergarten class. Bottom level prices are $150 a month, which is a quarter of the average salary in the capital. Many are charging five times that. Peking University, on the other hand, costs only $102/month.
But parents feel the pressure everywhere! Here, there's pressure on finding the right pre-school, finding the right summer camps, finding a million after-school activities. Is all this stress worth it? What is the biggest stress you feel as a parent? Do you feel your kid's schedule is too packed? Would they agree?
