What folks are Googlin' this morning

"hurricane earl"

Hurricane Earl, a cat. 4 storm as of 2 a.m. this morning, is moving closer to the North Carolina coast prompting the Nat'l Hurricane Center to issue a hurricane watch from north of Surf City to Duck.  The forecast has it brushing the North Carolina Outer Banks before curving back out to sea.  These storms sometimes have a mind of their own, though, so stay tuned. http://bit.ly/bk02OQ

"real housewives"

Chalk another one up for cheesy reality television!  Bravo renewed "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" and "The Real Housewives of New York."  http://exm.nr/9pC3Da

"brandon spikes"

Brandon Spikes of the New England Patriots has a sex-tape floating around.  The person holding the tape tried to sell it to a website for $1500, but when they refused to pay, the tape spread like wild fire all over the web.  A source familiar with the situation says the rookie linebacker recorded the video when he was in college.  “It’s an embarrassing situation for Brandon,” his agent told the Boston Herald.  "It certainly doesn’t reflect the kind of person that he is.” http://bit.ly/bVsGly

"meghan mccain"

The daughter of Sen. John McCain has a book out called "Dirty Sexy Politics," and says Sarah Palin is not to blame over her dad's presidential loss.  Meghan McCain calls Palin "the Time Bomb" who brought drama, stress and uncertainty to the campaign.  But she was also a chick-magnet who drew big female crowds and voters.  “I was waiting for her to explode,” writes McCain, 25. “There was a fine line between genius and insanity, they say, and choosing her as the running mate was starting to seem like the definition of that line.” http://bit.ly/abXdYE

What innocent little goof caused an avalanche of problems?

A man in Irvine, California torched 12-acres with his golf club.  The golfer accidentally struck a rock when he swung his club -- which caused a spark that lit the rough ablaze.  150 firefighters were called in to control the situation.  No charges were filed against the golfer, and no word on if he parred the hole.  http://yhoo.it/cSYlHB

Have you ever made an innocent mistake that created a big, big mess?

What's the last thing you INSTANTLY regret buying?

U.S. News and World Report has a great list of 5 Upgrades That Waste Your Money.  They may SOUND rewarding, but in the end are just a big waste of money.  Here they are:

Fancier Wine
If you were asked to perform a taste test and pick the wine that costs $5 and the one that costs $45, could you do it?  In a recent taste test, people claimed the more expensive wine tasted better -- even though the two wines they were sampling were exactly the same (and cheap).

A hybrid car
Crunching the numbers, a more expensive hybrid car may not be the most economical choice when you factor in the price of fuel vs. how long you'll keep the car.

Store memberships
It costs around $40 for the privilege of shopping at stores like Sam's Club and Costco.  Would you buy enough throughout the year to justify the cost?

A rewards credit card
A rewards credit card carries a bigger interest rate.  If you carry a small balance from month to month, you're paying more for your rewards card.

A stylish new wardrobe
Researchers found that spending money on leisure activities can boost happiness, while spending money on material goods, such as clothes, does not.  Leisure activities boost relationships with friends and family members that, in turn, make us happy.  How come I have a feeling you're not listening to me on this one???
