What was the #1 movie 12 years ago today? Hint -- this was on the soundtrack ... (PLAY)

Answer: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey, directed by Ron Howard)

A little boy returned from the grocery store with his mom. While his mom put away the groceries, the little boy opened his box of animal crackers and spread them all over the kitchen table.

"What are you doing?" asked his mom.

"The box says you shouldn't eat them if the seal is broken," said the little boy. "I'm looking for the seal."

Surviving the Holidays

Pop quiz: 40% do this -- only 8% get caught... Answer: Regifting! (Tip of the day: If you're going to regift-- regift to a guy. Guys are like Dori the fish in Finding Nemo -- they never remember what they got by the next day).

Top 10 most wanted gift cards... This is from GiftCardRescue.com, a survey of 20-thousand:

  1. Wal-mart!
  2. Target
  3. McDonalds
  4. Amazon.com
  5. Home Depot
  6. Lowe's
  7. Costco
  8. Subway
  9. Visa
  10. eBay

Sidenote:  Great idea -- my wife's side of the family is doing a grab bag this year filled with regifts.  Everyone brings their best regifted item and throws it in the basket -- then the trading and bargaining begins!  Biggest problem is hoping that the regift is not something my mother-in-law got me!

Top 10 Holiday Decorating DON'TS... from the experts at HouseBeautiful.com:

  1. Don't mix up presents -- write out the tags as soon as you wrap the gifts so there's not an embarrassing mix up
  2. Don't let the Christmas lights become a safety hazard... watch out for loose bulbs or protruding wire.
  3. Don't go overboard... when it comes to Christmas decorations, less is more.
  4. Don't expect things to be perfect ... no matter how far you plan ahead, something will go wrong.
  5. Don't keep your Christmas lights on all night... they say this one could be bad for your relationship with your neighbors
  6. Don't use disposable silverware for holiday dinners
  7. Don't limit yourself to red and green ... hues like gold, pink, and navy blue can work, too
  8. Don't think that poinsettias are poisonous... yes, they'll upset your stomach if you ingest them in high quantities, but it won't kill you. Still keep them out of the range of children or pets (just to be safe)
  9. Don't ignore the powder room ... With company dropping by, make sure your guest bathroom is clean. Toilet paper, clean towels, soap...you get the drill.
  10. Don't have your Christmas tree up at Valentines Day.

How to feel better single at Christmas...
Interesting article in Psychology Today about dealing with being alone around the holidays. They have a list of reasons why people tend to make this time of year worse for themselves --

#1: They compare their "insides" to other people's "outsides." Yes, couples are smiling and laughing this time of year. Are they really happy? Maybe. They could also be planning to file at the end of next month. You just never know.

So what can you do to make yourself feel better? They offer a few suggestions:
  • Own your holiday and do what YOU want to do
  • Eat well and get plenty of sleep
  • Hang with people in similar circumstances
  • Focus on NOT where you've been, but where you're headed!
Get the entire list of suggestions here, but they say if you're proactive about dealing with your loneliness, you'll end the year on a positive note.
