Today is National Cream Cheese Brownie Day, National Umbrella Day, and Try to Invent A New Jell-O Flavor Day. Has anyone combined Jell-O with the delightful flavor of McRib? That's dinner AND dessert in one cup (with whipped topping, thankyouverymuch)

Debate! What should, and what should you NOT, pay a kid to do? Here are five starters in the 'freebie' category. (insert blog address here)

To Pay or Not to Pay?

Dan Kadlec, a writer for CBS MoneyWatch, recently blogged about his 21-year old daughter's trip to South America next month. She's going with a non-profit group as a research volunteer, and he's cutting a check to cover her expenses. He feels quite confident that paying his daughter to go off and do charitable work is the right thing to do, but that's where it ends. He lists five things he'll never, EVER, pay his kids for... and see if you agree:

Grades: He thinks it creates self-esteem issues for kids who have brothers or sisters who are stronger academically

Chores: He would rather his kids see chores as being a contributing member of the family rather than work-with-pay.

Showing Up: No reward for going to school, going to grandma's, church, or their sister's ballet practice. That's just part of being a kid.

Good Behavior: That's just being a well functioning human being

Good Deeds: This falls under the umbrella of helping an elderly neighbor with the mail, or being nice to the unpopular kids at school, or helping out a younger student. Those must come from the heart, and nowhere else.

5 Ways to Be Happier

We all have our own way of boosting our mood, right? I'm assuming yours is legal. If you've run out of ideas, follow these five rules from a team of braniacs at Stanford University.

1. Spend time with the “right people.” Hint: They're not people you work with, either, they're generally family, friends and romantic partners.

2. Spend time on “socially connecting” activities, such as volunteering and spending time with friends. Choose experiences by how you might remember them in the future. Memory plays a huge roll in happiness.

3. Day drea. The part of the brain that is responsible for feeling pleasure can be activated by thinking about something pleasurable.

4. Expand your time. Focusing on the "here and now" slows down the perceived passage of time.

5. Be aware that aging changes the way people experience happiness. When you're young, it's all about excitement. As you age, happiness is about feeling peaceful.

Get much more detail to each of the above here.

How old is 'old enough' for a Facebook page? The First Mom has some advice (insert blog address)

When Are They Ready For Facebook?

What, in your opinion, is a good age for a kid to get his/her very own Facebook page?

 7, 10, 16?

Michelle Obama can't say an age, but it's certainly not before 13! Her two girls, Sasha, 9, and Melia, 12, have been banned from the site.  Some of it for security, but most of it because it just makes mom uncomfortable. The First Lady told the "Today Show" that she's not "a big fan of young kids having Facebook." She says the rules would be the same even if they weren't living in the White House. It's "not something they need," she says. "Maybe when they get older."

Joke of the Day

A guy dies and is sent to hell. Satan meets him, shows him doors to three rooms and says he must choose one to spend eternity in. In the first room, people are standing in excrement up to their necks.

The guy says: "No, let me see the next room."

In the second room, people are standing with excrement up to their noses. The guy shakes his head and says no again.

Finally, Satan opens the door to the third room. People are standing with excrement up to their knees, drinking coffee and eating pastries.

The guy says: "I pick this room."

Satan nods and starts to leave, and the guy wades in and starts pouring some coffee. On the way out Satan yells, "OK, coffee break's over. Everyone, back on your heads!"
