01.03.11 Monday

Hey there!

Long break, but a nice one at the same time.  Hope you had a great holiday -- mine was QUIET!  My wife is preggers so it was a nice excuse to stay home.  I got to some projects that I've been putting off for a year, including building a train shelf all the way around my son's room.  Now that it's done, I realize it would be best to stick to my day job.  Although, I discovered that when it comes to wood working, silicone is your friend.  It hides many errors!  Hollywood discovered that long ago.  Oh, and I also finished Angry Birds, the Christmas edition, so I'm pretty proud of that.   Here's a quick picture from New Years Eve in downtown Raleigh, NC.  That's just before the boy screamed "I'm Hungry!" 52-thousand times and we called it an early night.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Today is Apple Day which celebrates the incorporation of Apple Computer on this day in 1977.  Today also kicks off New Years Resolution Week, which reminds us to actually put our resolutions into play!  It's go time!  Tips below...

Can what you eat determine whether it's a boy or girl?  A new study found out... (insert blog address here)

Eating Your Way To a Girl?
A new study found there MAY be a link between what you eat and the sex of your baby.  Dutch researchers asked 32 women who already had boys to change up their diet during their next pregnancy.   They believe the more greens you eat, the better chance at a girl.  So the women were told to stick to a diet high in calcium and magnesium, like veggie stew, rice pudding and salad.

Result:  26 women had girls.  6 had boys.

Conclusion:  Eat your veggies but don't put too much stock in a study involving only 32 women.

Feeling bummed the holidays are over?  Here are a few tips to get over it (insert your blog address)

For your show and/or your blog

The holidays can be so stressful with office parties, children's parties, family parties, gift buying, gift wrapping, and relatives that never seem to leave.  Yet, when it's over, it's kind of sad, right?

Here are a few ways to deal with post-holiday blues from the director of a mental health clinic:

  • Make plans for a weekend trip or special evening outing.
  • Invite friends for dinner or an evening of games.
  • Invite your spouse/significant other out for a "date" and let him or her choose the activities for the evening.
  • Start a new activity. Is there something you always have wanted to do but never have gotten around to learning how to do? If so, see if there are any community courses you can enroll in to learn this new skill.
  • The day the holiday decorations are packed away, get fresh flowers for the house. The grocery stores and other places sell them very cheap. It helps to brighten your home and your spirits.

It's go-time for your New Year's resolutions!  Need help?  Here are a few tips to keep you focused (insert your blog address)

Keeping Your Promises!
Today is the day you've been dreading.  The day you HAVE to hit the gym.  Why?  Because as you were inhaling those Christmas cookies, you were also promising yourself you'd get more fit in 2011.  So how do you keep those promises?  Here are a few tips from the experts, and they're pretty simple and direct:

  • Be specific with your resolution:  Instead of saying you'll "get fit" this year, promise yourself you'll hit the gym three times a week.
  • Don't come up with a laundry list of resolutions.  Keep it small and realistic.
  • Have a written plan of action.
  • Share your goals with family and friends.  They'll help keep you focused.

Joke of the Day
There is a subtle but important difference between the words "complete" and "finished."
When you marry the right one, you are complete.
When you marry the wrong one, you are finished.
And if the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are completely finished.
