HEY THERE!
The trip was fantastic! We spent an entire week in... wait for it... DETROIT! The city has a poor rep, to say the least, but I love it. The people are tough and work hard... really hard. It's a workin' man's town, and even though it has been hit hard (really, really hard) by the recession, they still crank out some of the coolest cars in the world. It was nice to see my family and turn off my alarm clock for the week. Charlie did some nice, strategic kissing up to the grandparents just in time for the holiday shopping season.
Here are a few pictures taken from my phone... the other shots will be developed (yes, my wife likes cameras that use film) soon.
A quick stop in Canton, Ohio to see....

...what made me laugh most here were the couples walking through the museum. The men were walking slow and reading everything. (Most) of the women were there because they just really loved their guy. I swear I saw one guy crying in front of the Tom Landry tribute.
Saw this at a store next to the Football Hall of Fame and thought of you...

Stop blushing...we've all been there.
Next time you're in Detroit, DO NOT miss the Henry Ford Museum! It's one of the most amazing collection of anything on wheels you've ever seen... including Charlie's favorite, this massive steamer from the 50's...

Don't know who those two people are to the right, but I swear he's carrying her purse. Busted!
Same museum with an incredible line up of presidential limo's, including the actual convertible from "that day"...

The most interesting and disturbing story behind this car (besides the obvious) was the fact they kept the car in service for years following the president's assassination. Other vehicles on display were Reagan's car on the day he was shot, FDR's modified vehicle and Theodore Roosevelt's carriage.
And if that bores you, they also have the first Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.
Classic.
Then up to my old college stomping grounds...

Central Michigan University...FIRE UP CHIPS! By the way, I'm not indicating in this photo that CMU is #1, I'm showing you the number of dollars I've sent the alumni association. I haven't heard from them in a while...wonder why?
The campus radio station has changed since 1991...

Where are the records? Why all the computer monitors? Who's this kid?
And of course you can't visit Detroit without surviving a visit at Big Boy restaurant...

Charlie had the grilled cheese while I attacked the original "Big Boy" double-patty burger, which then attacked me the rest of the day. Just thought you'd want to know.
Because we rolled in late last night, today's prep is very limited... back to normal tomorrow.
