"blackhawks parade" - It took 49 years, but the Chicago Blackhawks finally won the Stanley Cup.  They beat the Philadelphia Flyers in OT of game 6 and finished the series last night.  The parade is next, and that will be held tomorrow at 10:30 am through downtown Chicago.  



"google background" - Your sleek and simple Google.com search page got a face lift.  Google has decided to add "inspirational pictures" for the next 24 hours to their search page.  If you hate the feature, just sign into your Google account, and then click the "remove background image" link in the bottom-left hand corner of the screen.  Or just wait, of course, and they'll go away in a day.  



"cma awards 2010 winners"- It was Carrie Underwood's night at the CMT Music Awards last night.  She was the night's only multiple award winner taking video of the year for "Cowboy Casanova" and CMT performance of the year for "Temporary Home."  This comes just two months after making history by winning her second Academy of Country Music Awards entertainer of the year.  



"fake it till you make it" - What's Steve Urkel been up to?  He's all grown up and doing shows on the Inernet!  Jaleel White stars in a web series on Hulu.com called "Fake It Till You Make It," playing Reggie Culkin, a former child star who now mentors three Hollywood wannabes.  This is not his first digital show, Jaleel also produced a web series called "Road to the Alter" last year.  He says after finishing that series, he knew he had to come back and do something "bigger, badder and better."  Great interview here

What did you not notice about that lovely house until after you moved in?
Great story here about a couple that bought their first home last year only to discover it had a "secret room"!  The room was unknown to the inspector or the couple until they moved in.  They thought discovering the "secret room" was the coolest thing ever until they opened the door only to find piles of garbage and wall-to-wall mold.  That was just the first discovery -- here's what else they discovered:

  • One of the cabinets had the bottom cut completely out so they could fit the fridge underneath it.
  • The countertop was not a countertop....it was floor tiling stuck down tight to hide the damaged one below.
  • Fake wood paneling in a room downstairs were covering up giant holes that look like someone had a temper tantrum and kicked in the wall.
  • One of the worst parts. Over 75% of the basement has ASBESTOS tiling, and we were not told about it!

Really, THIS is how I'm celebrating my birthday? (stories)
Happy 59th birthday, Suze Orman!  The personal finance guru spent her birthday on Saturday night in a hospital under the knife.  She had an emergency appendectomy at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago and is now resting comfortably in a hotel.  She'll head home to Florida this weekend.

  • He'll start drinking again after this for sure.  David Hasselhoff has agreed to get roasted on Comedy Central this summer.  He thinks he's ready.  In the press release he said "bring it on!  I'm ready to take the heat."  We'll see.  I predict another "Wendy's" moment the next night. source

  • "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan is bragging about his weight loss to Us Magazine.  "I use NutriSystem," but wouldn't confess exactly how much he's lost, only saying that he lost "10 pounds in two weeks."  His main reason for shedding the pounds is to lower his blood pressure, "and I'm diabetic -- it's great for that."  go!

GADGET OF THE DAY

If this were June 10th, 1935, this would most definitely be my "Gadget of the Day".  What you see here is the very first... wait for it... lunch box!  The Mickey Mouse Lunch Kit was the very first licensed character lunch box.  It has a tray inside, but no bottle.  Those didn't come along until later.  They sold for around 20 cents back then, but today it's worth a few thousand dollars.  

This is part of a collection of 3,000 lunch boxes owned by a man just outside of Detroit and he says he owns all but 8 ever made.  It's an interesting article found here.
