7 Thoughts That Are Bad For You! Live Science says our personalities do more than determine our social circles, they can also impact our health! Here are some character traits that you need to control:
#7: Cynicism -- Being mistrustful of others may lead to heart disease. In a study of more than 300 Vietnam veterans who were healthy at the study start, those who scored high on measures of hostility were about 25 percent more likely to develop heart disease
#6: Lack of Meaning -- Your life can be cut short early if your life lacks a sense of purpose. A study found elderly patients were half as likely to die over a five year period if they indicated having a high purpose in life.
#5: Fretting -- If you are constantly worried and nervous, you will die sooner than your chilled out friends. Mostly because neurotics are more likley to smoke and engage in other unhealthy behaviors.
#4: Lack Self-Control -- A study of 9-thousand people found that those who were conscientious, orgainzed and self-disciplined, lived 2 to 4 more years longer than their unorganized friends. Organized folks are less stressed, and less likely to smoke and drink over their lifetime.
#3: Anxiety -- Being highly frazzled can lead to a 50% greater chance of Alzheimer's disease.
#2: Gloom and Doom -- A study of 180 patients with peripheral arterial disease (plaque buildup in the arteries), showed those that are distressed had an increased chance of dying sooner than other people. These folks are more likely to experience negative emotions while at the same time holding in their feelings.
#1: Stress -- Prolonged stress can be deadly! Workplace stress can increase your chances of heart disease, flu virus, metabolic syndrom and high blood pressure.
Officials of the U.S. Open are looking over tapes of Serena Williams ripping a line judge a new one after she called a foot fault on the reigning champ. Williams ended up losing the match. After the call, Williams stormed toward the juge, waving her racquet and swearing like a sailor. TV commentator Pam Shriver said the move was threatening and called on Williams to apologize.
Ever get into an argument with a cashier over how much money you thought you gave them? The smart ones will always put the money ON TOP of the cash registar before giving you your change, so there's never a dispute. Too bad that didn't happen in Newport, Del., where a 53-year old woman was sure she gave the gas clerk a $20 bill for gas. He said she only gave him a buck. She wanted her $20 back. He said no, and that's when she stormed behind the counter, punched him in the face, and held scissors to his neck before getting back two $10's. She took off. Police say that's when she discovered she was wrong, and found the $20 in her purse. She's in jail this morning.
