drop of the day

Today is Flag Day commemorating the adoption of the flag of the United States of America on this day in 1777.

Pledge of Allegiance from John Wayne
John Wayne again with "Face the Flag, Son"
"Grand Old Flag"

Joke of the Day

Mr. Parker saw his son’s shiner and demanded, “Jimmy, who gave you that black eye?”

“No one,” replied the spunky child. “I had to fight for it.”

Flip Off

What makes grab our remote control and flip the channel faster than than toe-fungus commercial? A political ad! A new survey found 32% of us change the channel as soon as we see a political ad. We are also shying away from political news coverage, as well.

As usual, 88% of us say we hate political ads that go negative, even though political consultants say that's the only way to win. And this is just the beginning, too. The political ads are just getting started which is why 20% of us will watch our programs online, and 19% of us will record our favorite shows, just to avoid the ads.

What Dad Really Wants This Weekend

It turns out there's a big disconnect between what women think the men in their lives want for Fathers Day, and what those men actually want. I know...shocker.

A survey found 60% of women think their men would love a ticket to a sporting event, while only 36% of men pick that as their top choice.

Women also thought their man would love a powertool. Maybe not.

What do men really want? Here it is... a smartphone or tablet. That was followed by a home cooked meal. The majority of men ranked those two as their top choices.

Phones/Facebook: We need a few men to lay it out and be truthful...what do dads REALLY want on Sunday?

The Colors of Love

Long term relationships need a boost of inspiration every once in a while. It could be anything -- from date-night to a weekend away. But science has thrown something else into the mix -- colors. Colors can set a mood that will make for a happy home life. Here's what a few colors can do...

The red effect

Men love women in red -- and studies prove it. Men think a lady in red is trying to send a message, and you can guess what men think the message is. Research has also discovered that women think the same thing about guys wearing red.

Set the mood

Guys -- if you want to increase your attractiveness, sit with your back to a red background. Avoid orange at all costs, though. Orange is associated with being distressed and disturbed, which is why fast-food restaurants use the color in their decor.

Your bedroom

Want colors that get her "in the mood?" Go with yellow, greens and blues. Shades of blue elicit calm, creativity, tenderness and security. Incorporating three colors in wall paint induce a number of feelings when you enter your bedroom

Be bright

Women feel pleasure when they see brighter and more saturated colors. Bright clothes also bring out your smile, while darker hues are associated with aggressiveness.

Keeping work at work

Grey walls in the workplace make women feel depressed. Give your office a coat of blue, which stimulates collaboration.

"Are We There Yet?"

"Are we there yet? We get there when we get there!"

How soon after leaving for a family vacation will one of your kids ask the famous question: "Are we there yet?" After they ask it once, they ask it a thousand times, right? Not so, according to a new survey about family vacations. It turns out kids ask "are we there yet" nine times over a 7 day vacation.

And even though most parents enjoy their family vacation, they come home exhausted. One in four report needing a vacation after returning from their vacation.

One of the worst vacations for relaxation: Disney World. A trip to Disney leaves many moms and dads wiped out. A better alternative is a Disney Cruise.

If relaxation is your goal, ABC News has four suggestions:

All-inclusive resorts: less packing and unpacking the entire family in and out of the car and no waiting in line at theme parks.

Cruises: There's something for everyone

Fantasy camp at Atlantis Resorts: Throughout the summer, the resorts feature camp themes ranging from a Lego building camp to cheerleading camp, to Miss Teen USA camp and several more. The kids are gone all day leaving mom and dad to chill by the pool

Resorts renowned for kids' clubs: Google the Four Seasons' Kids for All Seasons program -- it's free and well-regarded.

Phones/Facebook: What family vacation sounded like a great idea at the time, but quickly turned into a disaster...
