It's NO HOUSEWORK DAY! It's going to be tough, but I THINK I can manage this one today. Believe it or not, it's also National Beer Day. No Housework Day and National Beer Day make a lovely couple.

Tiger Mom's Daughter Rocks Harvard AND Yale

If you want your kid to hand pick the college of their choice, then forget about the sissy way you're raising them, and look at the example set by Amy Chua. Amy, a professor at Yale, wrote a book earlier this year about raising kids called "Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother," where she revealed her super strict "Chinese upbringing" secrets. An upbringing that meant:

  • No sleepovers
  • No television
  • No grades lower than an A.
  • No playdates
  • No freedom to choose their own extra-curricular activities
  • No shot at trying out for school plays
  • No musical passions, except learning the piano or violin

In her book, she explains how she once told her daughter, Lulu, that if she didn't perfect a piano piece, that she wouldn't get birthday parties for four years. She told her to stop being 'cowardly, lazy and pathetic.'
After the books release, she received death threats and was called the "worst mother ever."

Amy's biggest beef with Western parents is their obsession with putting self-esteem before academic success.

And where did all of this fun get her daughter Sophia? Invitations to both Harvard and Yale.

Question: Is she right? Are we too obsessed with self-esteem and not tough enough?  Are we holding our kids back and hurting their chance at future success so they can feel good about themselves today?

Check out what her daughter wrote about her upbringing at the bottom of the article here
