What is the strangest thing you collect?
Congrats to librarian Graham Barker who found out he holds the world record for something absolutely... weird.
But who am I to judge -- I'll leave it up to you:
Graham holds the world record for saving his own belly button lint over the last 26 years. He's jarred 22.1 grams of lint. He's even considering stuffing a cushion with his collection.
But who am I to judge -- I'll leave it up to you:
Graham holds the world record for saving his own belly button lint over the last 26 years. He's jarred 22.1 grams of lint. He's even considering stuffing a cushion with his collection.
Like every world record, he says it began one night when he was bored. "I noticed the lint in my navel and became curious as to how much of it one person can produce..." He's sold 3 jars to a museum and is a quarter of the way to filling the fourth.
He says most people are okay with it, but some, especially women, "recoil in mock horror."
Graham doesn't stop at lint -- he also collects stamps, bakery bags and McDonalds tray liners. Can you top that?
Impersonate your partner's snore (for a nice prize?)!
Way to go Pedro! Pedro Lopez, an unemployed security guard, took first prize in a siesta competition in Madrid over the weekend. He napped for 17 minutes and registered a 70 decibel snore. That's like someone shouting in your ear.
The key to win? A big lunch just before the nap, he says.
The competition was sponsored by the National Association of Friends of the Siesta who are trying to promote and revive the Spanish tradition of a mid-day nap. "The mission of the championship is to spread the idea that the nap is something of ours that must be defended and practiced, because it is healthy and good for everyone," said the organizer.

50 Secrets Your Pilot Won't Tell You
This is from Readers Digest who asked 17 pilots for "straight answers" about safety rules, delays and what really happens in the cockpit. Some of these answers will make you stop at the airport bar before you fly.
“I’m constantly under pressure to carry less fuel than I’m comfortable with..."
“We tell passengers what they need to know. We don’t tell them things that are going to scare the pants off them..."
“The truth is, we’re exhausted. Our work rules allow us to be on duty 16 hours without a break. That’s many more hours than a truck driver..."
“Some FAA rules don’t make sense to us either..."
“I may be in uniform, but that doesn’t mean I’m the best person to ask for directions in the airport..."
"The regionals aren’t held to the same safety standards as the majors: Their pilots aren’t required to have as much training and experience, and the public doesn’t know that.”
“Most of the time, how you land is a good indicator of a pilot’s skill. So if you want to say something nice to a pilot as you’re getting off the plane, say ‘Nice landing.’ We do appreciate that.”
“It’s one thing if the pilot puts the seat belt sign on for the passengers. But if he tells the flight attendants to sit down, you’d better listen..."
“Is traveling with a baby in your lap safe? No. It’s extremely dangerous..."
“People always ask, ‘What’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you?’ I tell them it was a van ride from the Los Angeles airport to the hotel, and I’m not kidding.”
“If you’re a nervous flier, book a morning flight. The heating of the ground later causes bumpier air, and it’s much more likely to thunderstorm in the afternoon.”
“We don’t make you stow your laptop because we’re worried about electronic interference. It’s about having a projectile on your lap..."
"Cell Phones...what can happen is 12 people will decide to call someone just before landing, and I can get a false reading on my instruments saying that we are higher than we really are."

According to new research, women are tougher than men. A study out of Johns Hopkins found that when women are severely injured, they are more likely to survive than similarly injured men. The blame is on male sex hormones that "worsen their chance for survival," so scientists are looking for a way to manipulate those hormones to improve chances for survival.

JOKE OF THE DAY
An old man with a gorgeous young blonde asks a clerk at a jewelry store to pick out a special ring for him.
“This one costs $20,000,” says the jeweler.
“No. I want something extra special for an extra special girl,” he says.
The jeweler then picks out another ring, this time worth $65,000.
“Perfect,” says the old man. “I’ll write a check and when it clears on Monday, we’ll come and collect the ring.”
Monday arrives and the old man receives a call from the jeweler. “I’m awfully sorry, sir, but that check you signed has bounced,” the jeweler says.
“That’s okay,” replies the old man: “I knew it would, but imagine the weekend I’ve had.”
