"merlin olson" - Sad day for the sports world -- NFL star/broadcaster/actor Merlin Olsen passed away yesterday from a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma. He was 69. Merlin played with the Los Angeles Rams from '62 to '76, never missing a game in his 15 seasons. He then went on to play Jonathan Garvey in "Little House on the Prairie" from '77 to '81. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in '82 and then transitioned to sports commentary for NBC. Oh, and he was also that guy that convinced you to send flowers through FTD.


"mesothelioma" - What's that cancer that took Merlin Olsen from us? Meso-what? Mesothelioma (Mess-oh-thee-lee-oh-ma) is a form of lung cancer caused by prolonged exposure to asbestos. Early warning signs are often over looked because of their similarity to other common ailments.

You thought it was going to be romantic, but it turned into a big fat fail! What happaned?
If you're looking to surprise your woman, don't act like a burglar. A woman in Berlin called police after she heard someone climbing up to her balcony shortly after midnight. Yep, turns out it was her boyfriend who was surprising her with flowers and wine. Police arrested him anyway on an outstanding warrant. The guy, as a token of peace, gave the police the bottle wine. He still went to jail.

Don't forget, we spring forward this weekend! We lose an hour -- don't you wish you could use that power to erase one hour in the last week? Which hour would you like to forget?
Daylight time was a German thing starting in 1915, and then the rest of the world adopted the practice shortly after. Actually, the idea of daylight time was suggested by Benjamin Franklin more than once in the 1770's, but nobody wanted to reset the clocks on their VCR's, so it was ignored for more than a century -- or at least that's what Wikipedia told me.

Last night Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg (pic) were in Washington D.C. for a ceremony honoring veterans of WWII who served in the Pacific. This ties in with their HBO premiere of "Pacific," a 10-part mini-series debuting on HBO Sunday night.


Do you believe Kate Gosselin when she says she'd turn the cameras away if she didn't need them to support her kids? She told People that if she were able to provide for her kids on a nurse's salary, she'd do it, "but that's not possible…I cannot rely on the fact that Jon will be there to help support the kids, so I approach it as if I am the sole provider." Have you seen the Old Spice commercial featuring the guy that says you can smell like him? It's a huge hit for Old Spice and Old Spice guy. He's Isaiah Mustafa, a former NFL player, who told Ellen DeGeneres the commercial took four days to shoot.
